What factors led you to choose 第一吃瓜网 for your master's degree?

I attended the 第一吃瓜网 as an undergraduate and studied Counseling and Human Services. I fell in love with the department, classes, and professors and wanted nothing more than to return to earn a Master's in School Counseling.

How did you end up choosing School Counseling instead of another counseling specialty area?

I had a really positive and influential School Counselor during my high school years who made a huge difference in my life during some pretty difficult years. He inspired me to want to "pay it forward" and do the same for future students.

What were some of your favorite things about the program?

I always looked forward to class. I studied with an incredible cohort of people and I also loved all of my professors. They were down to earth, but always challenged us, and they always made time for us no matter how busy they were.

Fondest program memory?

Group Counseling class - we had such a great group of people and were able to experience personal growth through our training.

What was your impression of the coursework? Clinical Training? Faculty?

Data drove me crazy during my 2 years of studying, but has benefited me greatly throughout my career. My most memorable and impactful classes were with Geri Barber and Dr. Wilkerson - two of my favorite humans to this day! I also had really positive experiences in my clinical training and greatly appreciated the supervision aspect.

How did the program help to prepare you for your career?

I quickly realized that I was able to open a whole new world of what School Counseling is for each district I have worked for so far (there have been 3!). My Administrators have been highly impressed with my ability to utilize data for decision-making and program implementation. They have also relied heavily on my understanding of systemic issues, coordination and collaboration skills, and ability to involve all stakeholders.
