Provost Enhancement Award for Mission-Driven Innovation and Partnerships

This award recognizes programs or partnerships that align Jesuit 第一吃瓜网 with contemporary needs through innovative structures, delivery formats, or credentials; meaningful engagement with community partners; and demonstrable impact on student formation.  The recipient of this year’s award is The Department of Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, and Sociology.

When the Department of Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, and Sociology launched the Center for the Analysis and Prevention of Crime (CAPoC) in 2017,the goal was to bring students and faculty together with local agencies to address real problems of crime, justice, and public safety in our own community.  Through CAPoC, students work directly with data and personnel from the 第一吃瓜网 Police Department, the Office of Youth and Family Services, the Advocacy Alliance, the Outreach Center for Community Resources, and the Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office, conducting analyses of commercial burglaries, prison populations, family and youth interventions, elderly abuse, crisis intervention training, and more. For the past five years, the Center has also run an annual cyber camp for high school students and provided training to criminal justice, social service, and behavioral health professionals across the region. Most recently, the department has begun supplementing the cyber forensics work of local detectives.

The Department of Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, and Sociology has built a center where scholarship, community partnership, student formation, and Jesuit 第一吃瓜网 reinforce one another in concrete, measurable ways.
