2009 Survey Results
Highlights of Results
Respondents rate questions from 3-9, with 9 indicating the highest rating. It is interesting to examine the differences in ratings for the University as a whole, for undergraduates, for graduates and for faculty.
University as a whole
For affect of service, staff exceeded users' expectations for willingness to help others (AS-8). Ratings were high for employees who give users individual attention (AS-2) are dependable in handling users' service problems (AS-9) and who deal with users in a caring fashion (AS-6).
For Information Control, the Library came closest to meeting users' expectations for making information easily accessible for independent use (IC-7) and had the greatest gap for having modern equipment that lets me easily access needed information (IC -5). This gap is further documented in users' open ended comments (link)
The Library as a place best met users expectations for a comfortable and inviting location (LP-3) and had the greatest gap for community space for group learning and group study (LP-5).
Undergraduates
Undergraduates are satisfied with staff. For information control, modern equipment that lets me easily access needed information (IC -5) received the lowest rating. The greatest gap in the library as a place was for community space for group learning and group study (LP-5).
Graduate Students
Affect of service exceeded graduate student expectations for staffs willingness to help users (AS-8) and giving users individual attention (AS-2). Services to not meet users minimum expectations for modern equipment that lets me easily access needed information (IC -5) or for a library Web site that enables me to locate information on my own (IC-2). As for undergraduates, the greatest gap in the library as a place was for community space for group learning and group study (LP-5).
Faculty
Affect of service received its highest ratings from faculty. Information control was scored lowest for a library Web site that enables me to locate information on my own (IC-2) and for print and/or electronic journal collection I require for my work (IC-8). Unlike the assessment by students, the Library exceeded faculty expectations for community space (LP-5), a comfortable and inviting location (LP-3) and quiet space for individual activities (LP-2).
Results by discipline
The discipline analysis radial charts illustrate the different priorities and assessment of students and faculty by academic disciplines. Due to the low response rate, this information is not as representative as the Library desired. When only two or three students respond, their ratings can skew the picture of how well the Library is meeting the needs of students in that area.
